Wegmans Privacy Policy

Wegmans’ pledge to you

Since 1916, our business philosophy has been to be the very best at serving the wants and needs of our customers. Wegmans understands that you care how information about you is used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will use the information wisely and legitimately. You have our word that the personal data that we collect will only be used on behalf of giving you, our valued customer, our very best.

Why do we need personal data from you?

As detailed below, we collect personal data from you to serve you best. Whether it is in the form of your name and e-mail address when you place an order with Meals 2GO, or your contact information when you sign up for the Wegmans Shoppers Club, we collect personal data so we can contact, identify, and serve you better. The data you provide helps us understand your preferences, so we can personalize and continually improve your shopping experience.

What personal data do we collect?

We collect the following personal data:

  • Contact information, such as name, address, telephone number and email address
  • Your favorite stores, products and recipes
  • Household information
  • Payment information
  • Questions, communications and other content you submit
  • Wegmans.com login credentials
  • Purchases made with your Shoppers Club account or number, or with payment cards you have used with your Shoppers Club number
  • Job application information
  • Visual information, such as video recordings from inside our stores made for security purposes
  • Individual preferences and characteristics, such as inferences related to shopping patterns and behaviors
  • Other demographic information, such as age, income range and other preferences
  • Wegmans website and app usage and activity information
  • Online identifiers, like cookie IDs, device IDs or IP addresses.

We collect information about you in a number of ways, including:

  • Directly from you or a member of your household
  • From a device associated with you or your household
  • Through in-store technology, such as video cameras and point-of-sale equipment
  • By obtaining it from an external third-party source
  • By drawing conclusions about you from data we have collected elsewhere.

In addition, when you visit our website, we will use “cookies” to receive and store information whenever you interact with us through your computer or mobile device. This information, which may include the pages you visit on our site, your web address, the type of browser, device or hardware you are using, search terms, advertising identifier, mobile network information, and IP-based geographic location, helps us recognize you and customize your website experience. Cookies can also tell us what websites you have visited before visiting our website, which can help us better serve you. You can set your browser to reject and/or remove cookies at any time.

Some of our stores utilize video surveillance to create a safer environment for our staff and customers, and to deter, prevent, investigate and/or prosecute any illegal activity that may occur on our premises. Our video systems record digital images but do not record audio. The video is accessible only to a limited number of Wegmans employees, or to third party service providers engaged to assist with security-related tasks. These service providers may have access to video only where strictly required to perform their tasks, and are not allowed to use the video for any other purposes.

Analytics

We may use third-party tracking tools provided by third-party service providers to help us collect and analyze information about your use of our website. This information may include how often you visit our website, the pages you visit, and the other websites you use prior to visiting our website. We use this information to improve our website and your customer experience while on our site. Most third-party analytics tools collect only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit our website, rather than your name or other identifying information. Although third-party analytics tools store a cookie on your machine to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit our website, the cookie typically cannot be used by anyone but that third party. Some of these third-party service providers may collect information from our website for retargeting and interest-based advertising. Some third-party service providers may also build a profile of users’ online browsing activities. For more information about these forms of targeted advertising and to understand your right to opt-out from these practices, please visit: http://www.aboutads.info/choices/. Additional information on how to opt out of targeted advertising practices of NAI or DAA affiliated advertisers is available here: NAI Opt Out or DAA Opt Out. To further prevent targeted advertising based on browser behavior, you can disable cookies on your browser.

All third-party tools that we use are hosted by the third parties providing them to Wegmans. These tools include the following:

Google. We may use Google Analytics to collect information regarding visitor behavior and demographics on our website, and to develop website content. For more information about Google Analytics, visit: http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/. You can opt out of Google’s collection and processing of data generated by your use of our website by going to: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Facebook. We may use certain tools offered by Facebook that enable Facebook to collect or receive information about actions you take on our website through use of cookies or in order to provide measurement services, targeted ads and other services. For more information regarding the collection and use of such information by Facebook, see Facebook’s Privacy Policy at: https://www.facebook.com/policy.php.

If you make use of a Wegmans mobile application, we may use certain third-party tools for analytics in relation to mobile application usage as well.

Due to a lack of standardization regarding Do Not Track signals, we are not able to receive or honor “Do Not Track” signals received from browsers. Instead, you can use the range of other tools listed above to control information collection and use.
